Why hard mount the M2?
The only thing keeping the M2 from flexing away from the camera lens is the rods and the rubber cup. The stress of hand-holding or even focus pulling, may cause the camera to flex in and out of focus during usage. In an attempt to eliminate this possibility, one can hard-mount the M2.

FINAL THOUGHT
The Redrock M2 is a great product at a very nice price. With a few little tweaks that cost very little money, one can use this unit with great results.
